A little bit about what we do
Maghull in Bloom is a registered charity and is a volunteer led association that strives to improve the environment of Maghull.
Some of our Projects
We run a number of projects around the Maghull area. Below is just a sample of what we do.
Maghull Central Square is the main hub of our community and we have a large number of planters which are kindly supported by the local businesses.
Meadows Leisure Centre is another hub in our community with many visitors from in and outside the area. Our colourful planters and beds make a welcoming site for visitors.
Treeview Court is a main thoroughfare used by Maghull Station commuters and the general public. We have a large floral display in a walled corner bed and in the summer months we install a number of hanging baskets to further enhance the shopping area.
Our history
Following a family outing in 2007 to Morpeth in Northumberland George Baker, a Maghull resident decided to form a volunteer group.
He had been impressed by the efforts made by the local people to improve their environment by planting large and colourful floral displays.
He gathered together a small group of like-minded residents who were interested in doing something similar in Maghull. An initial meeting was held and all the attendees enthusiastically voiced their approval and provided some thoughts as to how the concept could be moved forward.
It was at this point that a committee was formed with other residents of Maghull namely John Harrison, Anne and John Hill. Their input, over the following years, can never be underestimated.
Maghull in Bloom was originally entitled Maghull and Lydiate in Bloom as it was thought it would be more advantageous to form a volunteer group that would encompass two adjoining areas.
Eventually, though we became just Maghull in Bloom and it was during this time that an invaluable partnership with Maghull Town Council was formed which has continued to this day.
Fast forward to 2019 and we became a registered charity.
Over the years the group has blossomed (pardon the pun) to be one of the most successful horticultural display groups in Sefton. Our volunteers have worked in unison with many local organisations and businesses, without whose help Maghull in Bloom would not be able to function.
Our unsung heroes whose dedication has created and maintained the many floral displays around Maghull, through wind and rain, continues as a constant inspiration to one and all.
A new committee was formed in 2022 following a recruitment campaign. This provided us with an opportunity to look at new ideas and with renewed energy take Maghull in Bloom forward.
It is useful to remember that ‘we can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone’.
Perhaps you would like to become part of our history?……..
